Elektra Records released the track as the first single from the album on March 6, 2001, and it reached Number 7 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.

In the UK, the single peaked at Number 4, while reaching an impressive 9 in the Netherlands.

A remix of the song features Portuguese-Canadian singer-songwriter Nelly Furtado and ultimately became a dance club hit. It was used both in the soundtrack and in the background of the 2001 motion picture Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.

Furthermore, in 2010, Rollingstone listed the song at number 466 on their 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
